After Mourinho convinced everyone of his true talent and value as a coach, the Barclaycard officials finally thought about making it official.
As a consequence of Chelsea's great season this year, Mourinho was named "Coach of the Year" in the Premiership. After his 4th consecutive domestic title in Europe - the first two titles with FC Porto in Portugal, the next two with Chelsea - and a UEFA Champions League trophy with the same Porto side, the Portuguese wins his first award on English territory.
Even if he was pretty flattered by the fact that he had won this award, Mourinho couldn't restrain his surprise: "It is a big honor. It's the consequence of Chelsea being champions for the second consecutive year but it is a surprise for me because during the season I couldn't win one single manager of the month. We had a start where we won nine consecutive victories but I could not win in August or September. This is really unexpected".
He then added: "It is an individual award but it is collective. It is about the manager and the team achieving the target. At the same time I don't forget the other people who also had very positive work and one of them could have been the winner".
He concluded by saying he feels honored of having been given the award and wanted to promise Chelsea fans that their team will gain the international respect soon enough.
