The Vsync locks the framerate at 30fps while download and file errors are common

Murdered: Soul Suspect was released yesterday across several platforms, but on the PC it's been the victim of quite a few problems, such as the Vsync option locking the framerate to just 30fps, despite powerful PCs, not to mention plenty of crashes and errors.

Murdered: Soul Suspect, despite no serious marketing campaign from publisher Square Enix or developer Airtight Games, was eagerly awaited by quite a few gamers worldwide due to its novel premise, of investigating your own murder while you're a ghost.

The game launched in North America yesterday, June 3, and is set to debut in Europe on Friday, June 6, for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms.

Unfortunately for PC users, several problems have already been spotted by those who got the title on Steam and had hoped to go through it as fast as possible. Fortunately, besides their warnings, quite a few workarounds have also been found by some of them, so read on to see what possible errors might affect Murdered: Soul Suspect on PC.

First up, those who see that the game crashes on startup need to verify the integrity of the game cache by selecting this option in the properties screen of the game's listing in the Steam client.

Those who are also met with errors relating to missing files, such as the main executable, or corrupt ones should also try to verify the integrity of the game cache, as a few errors have affected the download process.

By far one of the most serious problems pestering PC owners of the game is the fact that the framerate is limited to just 30fps, despite the title’s running on powerful computers with graphics cards capable of more than 60fps.

Apparently, this is due to the Vsync option in the game which, rather surprisingly, locks the game at a 30fps framerate. Even if you turn it off, the game is still stuck at 30fps.

In order to solve this issue, there are currently two possible workarounds. The first means turning off Vsync and going into the My Documents/MyGames/Murdered Soul Suspect folder on your PC and opening the FateEngine.ini file with a text editor such as the standard Notepad. Change the bsmoothframerate=False to True, and change usevsync=False to True as well. Save the changes, then click the properties of the FateEngine.ini file to make it read-only.

If this solution doesn't work, disable Vsync in the game and then use external programs such as the Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Catalyst Control Center to force some form of Vsync for the game.
