Potion Factory is a software producer that develops Tangerine!, a program that allows you to easily create playlists of upbeat music, or playlist for relaxation, it's your choice. This software application accomplishes its task by analyzing the BPM and the beat intensity of your tunes, so you won't have to spend entire days to sort your music into party/workout and soft music/relaxation playlists. With Tangerine!, all your free time can be spent to enjoy the music you want, and not to sort tracks and create playlists. Sounds like a good deal, isn't it?

Tangerine!'s last version, labeled 1.1, is still hot at this time, since it was released on the 17th of this month. If you used a previous version, there's no need for you to re-analyze your library after upgrading, since the analysis code has remained the same in this release, according to Poison Factory. However, it seems that from now on, the development team will focus on the analysis process, so you may need to re-analyze your library in the near future, as soon as a new version with modified code is released.

The new version adds presets and preset rules to the playlist sheet, refetch album arts menu item under the file menu, play count and play date is updated at iTunes as soon as the track finishes playing, and songs can be rated through the table view and dock menu, and the rating gets saved to iTunes in both cases. Now, the dock menu shows the current song's title and artist, a "low to high" playlist generation pattern has been added, and a lot of bugs have been fixed since the previous version.

Available as a Universal Binary application, Tangerine! needs Mac OS X 10.4 or later versions to run, and it proves to be quite fast, since a 3000-song folder is scanned in around 20 minutes on a Core Duo iMac. The price of this program is 24.95$, but a feature-limited, 15 days trial version is available for free.
