Multi-core University Program

- From Intel with love

By: Dan Frincu, Hardware Editor

You win some, you lose some, you give back to the people some. Well, the last one isn't part of the saying but it's what Intel is doing in China. Their program called the Multi-core University
provides training for students with the help of some very innovative solutions and of course, branded with the Intel logo.

Wee Theng Tan, vice president of Intel Corporation and president of Intel China said: "As a global technology leader, Intel has been committed to advancing technological innovation and cultivating IT talent. In China, Intel continues its efforts to support China's educational institutions and promote the knowledge economy. Advanced manufacturing processes such as nanotechnology and multi-core applications have brought sweeping changes for the entire IT industry. The joint multi-core labs established by Intel and the Chinese universities will help integrate multi-core technology in teaching and research conducted in universities in order to cultivate more technical talents adaptive to this new era."

Intel has a lot of programs that span around the world in which they try to give back to the people; among these programs, there is the Intel Teach initiative, which helps teachers get a knowledge base so that students can learn from them and have the ability of handling themselves in the IT world. The Multi-core University program now has expanded to 37 universities in China, and will support China's Higher Education Quality Project.

Intel made its presence in the Chinese education more than 22 years ago, they have a lot of programs running in parallel in this country, such as "education programs for K-12 and higher education (...) Intel Teach Program, Intel Learn Program, Intel ISEF." But on the other hand, if you come to think of it, Intel has just received approval for building a factory in China, one that is more technologically advanced than what the Chinese market has, and which will give Intel the opportunity to fill the market with their products even more. So maybe this was a step forward in softening their presence in this country, one to which they have gone to great lengths to achieve.
