Not long ago, some cartoons have led to mass protest and burning down of Western embassies. That happened in the Muslim World, so such things aren't about to happen in Germany where some Catholic bishops are really upset by local MTV's intention to broadcast a Vatican-themes animated series.
The animation is named Popetown and as anyone familiar with recent animated TV series could imagine is centered on mocking the Pope and the Vatican. The Bishops of the Bavaria Land declared they felt the cartoon's aim is to insult Catholics, their religious ceremonies and mock Bavaria-born Cardinal Ratzinger, a.k.a Pope Benedict.
MTV executives are not at all pleased with the lobby the Catholic Church has started but insist that such reactions were not to be accepted before any episode is aired.
The representatives also considered taking the show off the air only after the first episodes will be broadcasted and only if the audiences' feedback will demand that.
Initially the cartoon series were offered to the BBC TV network but they turned down the series in order not to offend its viewers.
