Msi has recently announced the availability of its new motherboard line featuring Nvidia’s 6xx architecture. All the boards are designed to work with INTEL LGA775 CPUs and will be based upon 680i/650i SLI chipsets with a motherboard using the 650 Ultra chipset to follow shortly after the first 2
products launch. The 650 Ultra boards were set to come out later than the SLI line, but it seems that Msi is trying to launch the value motherboard at the same time with its older brothers. Let’s hope that this idea will work since 650 Ultra based boards are still unavailable on the market and many chipset integrators didn’t even bother to announce such a product.
The P6N Diamond uses the Nvidia 680i chipset, the P6N SLI Platinum has a 650i chipset inside while the P6N Neo utilizes the 650i Ultra (C55+MCP51) turning the product into a value-oriented one.
P6N Diamond uses two 16x and one 8x PCI-Express slots, making it a 3 slot solution, properly fitted for those of you who want SLI configurations with added PhysX accelerators from Ageia. Unfortunately for the enthusiasts, quad SLI capabilities are inexistent since the board possesses only 3 PCIE slots. Aside from that all, boards can cope with 1333FSB and 1200MHz-DDR2, although the specifications do not comply with official standards.
Along with the launch, Msi has also released a datasheet containing the names of its Quad-Core certified motherboards. The following products support Qx6700 CPU: 975X Platinum, P965 Platinum P965 Neo2 G965MDH Q965MDO, P6N Diamond, and P6N SLI Platinum. Of course, the upcoming 1333MHz CPUs from INTEL will only work in Nvidia based boards. Pricing and availability remain unknown.
