A London court ordered British hip-hop singer Ms. Dynamite to perform 60 hours of community service and pay 1,324 dollars in compensation to a police officer she slapped outside a nightclub earlier this month, court officials said yesterday.
The singer, whose real name is Niomi McLean-Daley, pleaded guilty on January 13 to charges of disorderly conduct and assaulting the female police officer following an incident outside the Paragon Lounge nightclub in London's West End on January 6.
The 24-year-old singer will also have to pay an additional 882 dollars in fines for the disorderly conduct charge and 88 dollars in court costs.
Her attorney, Anthony Burton, said the assault took place after the 24-year-old singer and her 18-year-old sister were subjected to racial remarks inside the club. "It was not a premeditated push or strike," Burton said during a hearing at London's Bow Street Magistrates' Court. "This was out-of-character behavior."
Prosecutor Kashif Malik said police tried to calm the singer down but she refused, slapping the police officer after she tried to remove the singer's jewelry. "She kept screaming. She kept repeating the words, 'You don't care, you are not bothered,' " Malik said. "She was swearing and there was a short struggle."
