When it rains, it pours, and when it comes to the list of software solutions portals available around the world at the moment, we can add another name: Mplayit has just announced the launch of its Android App Store on Facebook. The company has a cross-platform app store on the Facebook platform, and now it sports support for Android, following the previous support for the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Java-powered mobile devices. According to the company, the entire number of more than 15,000 Android applications available can be found via its app store now.

“App discovery on Android is frankly a mess. From our success with our iPhone Arcade on Facebook, we know how to socially engage users. We let them tap into their friends and networks to try and share apps, and we're bringing that know-how to the Android app marketplace,” Michael Powers, founder and CEO of Mplayit, commented on the new launch. At the same time, he also noted that the launch has been made at the optimal moment.

Mplayit offers users the possibility to easily discover new applications through “tapping their trusted network of friends for recommendations, ratings, and reviews.” According to AdMob, more than half (56 percent) of users find applications via word-of-mouth and online buzz, and the process has been automated via Mplayit's solution. The Mplayit Facebook mobile app store has been released in October, with support for iPhone and Java-powered phones, and earlier this month it has been enhanced with BlackBerry support.

Android is on the brink of prime time. It will be the single biggest audience for mobile apps in the very near future, and Mplayit will play a major role in helping those users find great apps,” said Powers. “Compelling new devices like the Motorola Droid, Google's Nexus One and the truly mass-market devices that will shortly follow make Android the place to be. We believe that, with our new service, Android is at last getting the distribution ecosystem it deserves.”
