Coinciding with the upcoming launch of Firefox 3.5, which should be coming later in the day, Mozilla has released the latest version of its bookmark and browser history synchronizing technology, Weave Sync 0.4.0. This version brings some new features, support for Mozilla's mobile browser, Fennec, on the Maemo Linux platform and the usual set of tweaks and improvements.

“Weave Sync lets you securely take your Firefox experience with you to all your Firefox browsers — including our mobile browser, codenamed Fennec. It currently supports continuous synchronization of your bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords and tabs,” writes Mike Connor on Mozilla Labs, announcing the release. “If you have not looked at Weave recently, now is a great time to jump in and try it out! This release includes a major rewrite of many of Weave’s key components since the last major release in June.”

Weave Sync is a Firefox add-on that lets you synchronize your browsing experience across various platforms and devices you may own, like desktops, laptops, netbooks or mobile phones. This would allow you to get the same results in the Smart Location Bar no matter which computer you are currently using or to continue your work session restoring the tabs you had opened on a different browser. All the data is encrypted before being uploaded to Mozilla's servers so privacy isn't an issue.

On its own Weave Sync would be useful to a small set of people but it is part of the Weave project, which has a broader scope. Weave Sync is currently the only tool that has been released for the project but its ambitions are far greater than just restoring your bookmarks as Weave aims to bring together all the web services you use and provide a more integrated experience for users no matter where they are or what computer or mobile device they are using.
