A new version of the best email and RSS client on Linux has been released

Mozilla has officially released Thunderbird 17.0.8, an email and RSS client, but the company hasn't said yet what the changes for this version are.

Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.8 is not a major release and this can be easily seen from the complete lack of information about it.

It seems that users will have to postpone their expectations of a new stable branch of Thunderbird, and it will take a while until they receive it.

If you are using an Ubuntu distribution, you might want to wait until the application is packaged and uploaded to the repositories, which shouldn't take too long now.

Mozilla provides binaries that don't have to be installed in order to work, and those packages are available from the links posted below.

Check out the official release notes for a complete list of changes and updates.
