Mozilla just announced that the mass notifications for users working with Firefox 3.6.x it had planned for today is postponed to a date yet to be announced.

The developer made clear that there are no implications at support levels and it does not mean Firefox 3.6 has reached end of life. It simply means that users of the old version of the browser will be offered a major update to a newer, better Firefox.

Mozilla has been pushing updates to users still hanging to old versions of the browserfor a long time. The only difference this time is that the version gap covered by the update is larger, because of the rapid release cycle adopted by the company.

In the case of enterprise deployments that do not have major updates enabled in rollouts, users won’t have to deal with the announcement. The “campaign” is aimed at the regular folk, to make them aware of the newer alternative.
