Mozilla developers have announced that a new version of the Firefox browser is now available for download and testing. This is just a maintenance upgrade for the recently released 32.x branch of Firefox, so the number of changes is not that impressive.

The Firefox developers usually offer a few point releases for each new major update that's being pushed from time to time, and the new 32.0.1 version is just such a release. Interestingly enough, this update is not very consistent, which isn't something that happens very often.

The 32.0.1 update for Firefox features just a few changes that will be noticed by the users, and most of the modifications are under the hood. In any case, it would be a great idea to get the update as soon as the application becomes available in the repos.

What's changed in the latest Firefox

According to the changelog, a number of stability issues for computers with multiple graphics cards have been fixed, mixed content icon is no longer incorrectly displayed instead of the lock icon for SSL sites, and the setRemoteDescription() no longer silently fails if no success callback has been specified.

Some of the bigger changes that have been made to the Firefox 32.x branch include a few pretty interesting ones, like the ability to display the number of found items in the find toolbar, Password Manager and the Add-on Manager performance improvements, and lots of HTML 5-related modifications.

Where to get it

If you are running the Windows version of Firefox, you don't really need to worry about upgrading. You will get the new version pretty quickly, but if you have a Linux system, you have two options. Either the user upgrades though the official repositories or they compile their own version.

It's also important to note that Mozilla also provides the binaries required to run Firefox without installing it, but you won't be able to get any further updates. It's even possible to have two different versions of Firefox on the same system, but one has to be installed and the second one needs to be the binary provided by Mozilla.

It's also possible that some of the add-ons that you have already installed with the current Firefox version might not work with the next one, but that's rather unlikely, especially with point releases.

More details about this new Firefox release can be found in the official changelog, and you should expect the new version to hit the official repos very soon.
