Mozzila Foundation recently took another step
towards the final version of Firefox 2 with the announcement of the Bon Echo Alpha 2 build.
The open-source browser's site warns that this release is only aimed at web application developers and testers, the bugs contained by the build preventing it from being suitable for the regular user.
Here are some major changes suffered by the new version:
-Links default to opening in new tabs, not new windows;
-Close buttons now appear on every tab, and the close behavior is slightly different;
-Inline spellchecking in text boxes;
-Automatic restoration of your browsing session if there is a crash;
-New search plugin manager for removing and re-ordering search engines;
-New search service that supports Sherlock and OpenSearch engines;
-Support for SVG text using svg:textPath.
The first alpha version of Firefox 2.0 was released on March 21, 2006, and it was dubbed Bon Echo Alpha 1.
Bon Echo Alpha 2 is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X in several languages and can be downloaded from
