Screenshots surface on the net

It’s been a while now that people have been talking about how Mozilla is going to release its mobile browser in 2010 – and it seems that, for most, this is seen as a really long waiting. After all, Mozilla is the first choice when it comes to PC Internet browsing, together with Opera.

These days, less and less people use Internet Explorer on their PCs, but this does not apply to mobiles as well. It is here that IE and Opera share the market, while Mozilla is far, far behind, since it doesn't even have a mobile version released.

A few days ago, we informed you about an announcement coming from John Lilly, CEO at Mozilla, saying that the alpha version might drop sometime soon. “The first thing is to bring Firefox to mobile devices. We’re working on that, and we’ll see some alphas in a few weeks.” Lilly said at the time.

The good news is that the waiting turned out to be not that long after all, as the world has already been offered a glimpse at the mobile version of Mozilla, apparently going under the dubbing of Fennec. The small preview of its looks comes to show the world that the project is underway and on schedule, or so it seems.

Based on the screenshots made available, we can form an idea of how the final version of Fennec will look like. Apparently, Firefox is running on a touchscreen smartphone using Windows Mobile Pro and, as you can see, there is a “Welcome to Fennec” splashscreen when you open the program. Another screenshot reveals that the Acid3 Test was run on Fennec and it scored 88/100, which is not a bad at all.

Until we hear more of Mozilla Firefox Mobile aka Fennec, we'll let you enjoy the photos while we all hope we'll get to see it on our mobiles soon enough.
