Mozilla has just rolled out a brand new version of Mozilla Firefox 31 that’s still part of the beta development channel and is supposed to provide users with the possibility to try out the upcoming release of the browser ahead of the public launch.

This new beta comes with several bug fixes and performance improvements over the previous preview version, so those who are already running Firefox 31 are strongly recommended to download and install this fresh build as soon as possible.

In case you were wondering, the controversial Australis UI which was introduced in Firefox 29 continues to be offered to Mozilla users and this new beta build makes no exception.

Australis was designed from the very beginning to represent a much more appealing and helpful interface, trying to lend a hand to users who were trying to do simple things faster.

Mozilla said from the very beginning that Australis was designed to be “the most beautiful and detail-obsessed iteration of Firefox’s visual design yet” because it is modern, clean, and comfortable.

“Australis is largest refinement of the Firefox interface in a long time, and it touches almost everything, from the big picture of overall layout to the tiny corners of icon design. One of the most noticeable changes is our tab shape. Ours is Firefoxy — organic, friendly, and fluid — and a good fit for the general feel of Firefox,” Mozilla explained.

“Firefox has grown with the web, bringing new tools and capabilities — tabbed browsing, one click bookmarking, download management — to the forefront the whole time. But you can’t just keep adding without pausing, taking stock of what’s broadly used and what’s not, and cleaning up. Firefox, like all software, has accumulated baggage over time, but our users have become seasoned light travelers.”

Despite all of these, Firefox 29 was one of the most controversial versions of the browser and many actually decided to disable the Australis UI with some workarounds and third-party themes. Of course, Mozilla hopes that eventually everyone would get used to the Australis UI and clearly seems ready to offer it as the default interface for all future versions of the browser.

Of course, the new beta is available for all supported desktop operating system, so click the download links below to get the version that is working on your computer.
