Canonical has published details about a number of Firefox vulnerabilities for its Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 12.10, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS operating systems, and it has released a new version in the official repositories that should take care of the problems.

The new Firefox 29 with Australis has landed in all supported Ubuntu operating systems and it comes with numerous security fixes and other changes.

According to the Ubuntu security report, “Bobby Holley, Carsten Book, Christoph Diehl, Gary Kwong, Jan de Mooij, Jesse Ruderman, Nathan Froyd, John Schoenick, Karl Tomlinson, Vladimir Vukicevic and Christian Holler discovered multiple memory safety issues in Firefox. If a user were tricked in to opening a specially crafted website, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service via application crash, or execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking Firefox.”

And this is just one of the vulnerabilities found. For a more detailed description of the problems, you can check out Canonical's security notification.

Ubuntu developers have been quick and have made the new Firefox 29 available in the official repositories so that anyone can upgrade easily, including Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr).
