New Tab Page preloading is now turned on by default

Mozilla has officially released the stable version for version 24 of Firefox. It is available for all supported desktop platforms and in all supported languages.

The fresh build introduces a new option that allows users to close all the tabs opened to the right of the selected one.

It may seem like an insignificant feature, but it is actually very useful today, when jumping from link to link is a common activity. Reading something online will definitely make you digress to other parts of the Internet. When you return to the original tab, you can close all the others to its right, from the context menu.

Another new implementation is the ability to detach chat windows in order to view them separately.

Improvements available in this release touch on the load performance of the “new tab page.” The novelty consists in enabling preloading the new tab page by default. Up to this release, the function would be available under about:config, but it was turned off by default.

As far as known issues are concerned, the developer informs of the old issue with Firefox crashing when started using a locked profile. Fortunately, this scenario is far from being common.
