Mozilla’s Firefox OS is now available on devices in several markets in Europe, and it should arrive in more countries in the not too distant future, the company has announced.

At the moment, handsets powered by the Firefox OS can be purchased in no less than 13 countries worldwide, including Serbia, Montenegro, Hungary, and Greece, which received them only recently.

Deutsche Telekom has brought these devices to Telekom in Hungary and COSMOTE in Greece in the past few weeks, after launching them in Poland via T-Mobile.

Furthermore, Telenor is now selling these smartphones in Serbia and Montenegro, after releasing them in Hungary last week.

The wireless carrier is planning on making the Firefox OS devices available for more users around the world, including some in Asia in 2014.

“Telenor has been an active partner in the development of Firefox OS and we are excited to continue to work with Telenor on bringing Firefox OS devices to more markets”, said Andreas Gal, vice president Mobile at Mozilla.

Back in October, Firefox OS phones arrived in Germany via Deutsche Telekom’s Congstar, and were also launched in Latin America last month.

Moving forth, we should see some more European countries receiving access to these devices. The same should happen in markets in other continents, though Mozilla has yet to deliver specific details on the matter.

“Mozilla is working with operator, hardware and developer partners around the world to offer more choice and control in the mobile industry with Firefox OS,” the company notes in a blog post.

“Firefox OS smartphones are the first devices powered completely by Web technologies to deliver the performance and personalization you want in a smartphone with a beautiful, intuitive and easy-to-use experience that is unmatched by any other phone.”

The open web platform provides users with a high-quality mobile Internet experience, as well as with access to applications that are tailored to suit local needs. At the moment, the OS is available on two commercial smartphones, namely Alcatel One Touch Fire and ZTE Open.
