Today, Mozilla and Foxconn officially announced a partnership aimed at the loading of the Firefox OS mobile platform on the manufacturer's devices.

During a press event, Mozilla unveiled that it was already working on at least five Firefox OS devices, while also showcasing a tablet PC that was powered by the platform.

The partnership with Foxconn will provide better integration of hardware, software, content, and services for the mobile platform, which is based on HTML5 and open Web technologies.

Firefox OS has already gained support from various vendors and telecom service providers, and is set to arrive on shelves before the end of the summer, Mozilla stated.

“The Firefox OS initiative helps solidify open Web standards for mobile computing; it also encourages and enables more openness in system integration and device interoperation,” Dr. Li Gong, SVP of Mobile Devices, president of Asia Operations, and CEO of Mozilla Taiwan, said.

“This cooperation [with Foxconn] demonstrates the full potential of Firefox OS, the open Web mobile operating system, to enable not only the smartphone but also a wide range of mobile devices.”
