Search suggestions support keyboard navigation so you get results a lot faster

Mozilla's Add-ons site is one of the most visited in the world and, while many of the features for discovering and installing add-ons are already built inside Firefox or Thunderbird, the site remains a very popular destination for Mozilla fans.

The site has been getting a makeover for the past few months and it's looking the best it ever has.

But the team is also working on improving the functionality, this week, Mozilla has made two interesting additions to the site.

First on the list is search suggestions. As you may have guessed, this feature brings out a list of suggested results as soon as you start typing in the search box.

"We’ve been working hard over the past few months to make our search as awesome as possible. A few weeks ago, it got both a fresh coat of paint and a completely new engine. This week, we’ve taken it a step further — instant search suggestions, as you type," Mozilla explained.

One cool thing about search suggestions is that you can use your arrow keys to select a result and then press Enter to go straight to that page, without having to raise your hands from the keyboard. You can also hit 's' at any time on Mozilla Add-ons and you'll select the search box.

Another useful addition is the ability for add-on developers to indicate that their add-ons depend on others, as it is many times the case. This will enable users to get all they need in one go and not have to figure out why their add-on isn't working or won't install properly.

For example, as Mozilla details, the web page speed testing tool YSlow, from Yahoo, depends on the Firebug development tool/Firefox add-on since it's actually a component for Firebug.
