Add-ons are arguably one of Firefox's biggest feature and over the years developers have created a huge number of them to cover any use case. But with so many of them, there was a need to better manage a bunch of them at a time, so collections were created.

The feature is now getting an update, making it easier to create collections and include add-ons in existing ones.

Some other changes were also implemented based on how many used the feature, as a way of keeping track of favorite add-ons.

"It’s been just over a year since we introduced Add-on Collections, a way for anyone to create and share groups of add-ons for Firefox," an announcement on the Mozilla add-ons blog read.

"Today we’re very excited to launch a major update to our add-ons gallery that makes it even easier to spot, save, and share your favorite add-ons," it added.

Since many users created collections just as a way to save their favorite add-ons for later use, you can now add any add-on directly to a purpose-built, private My Favorite Add-ons collection.

The favorite buttons will show up in various places on the Add-ons site to make it easy to add new extensions. An Add to Collection button was also introduced to allows you to include an add-on in an existing collection or create a new one.

Collections themselves are now easier to follow, share and edit. These new buttons show up wherever collections are listed. Mozilla says the directory navigation has also been improved.

Finally, Mozilla has also changed the location of the collections. "With more than 64,000 collections created in the last 14 months, it can be difficult to find a unique URL for a new collection that isn’t already in use. We’ve changed the URL structure so that all of your collections are under your username and can be called anything you want," Mozilla explained. [via DownloadSquad]
