Google provides direct results for a number of queries, like stock quotes, weather, even music with the brand new Music OneBox. There is also a Movie OneBox which shows locations where the movie is playing and at what times. Now Google updated the feature to provide more details on the movie, but it went one step further and has just launched a dedicated movie section as well.

“Did you know you can immediately discover movie times and locations by typing a simple search on Google? For example, search for [where the wild things are] and you'll see times and places to watch the film, or try [glendale 18 los angeles] to see movies playing at your local theater. You can also click on the showtimes search result to get more complete movie listings and information,” Dan Stokeley, associate product manager at Google, wrote about the Movie OneBox.

The new OneBox is designed to fill about the same space as any other result entry, but it is packed with information. The emphasis is on the showtimes, when the movie is playing at theaters near your location, but the length of the movie and its average review score are also there. Finally, there are several links to more reviews, the trailer where available, and to the maps with the locations of the theaters.

The new movie section available at google.com/movies provides a lot more information on any movie you'd want to see. Each movie now has a small description and various, general info related to it. The page also pulls data from different sources to provide detailed locations and showtimes, a decent number of reviews to get the general view about the movie, but trailers from YouTube and photos, as well. Moreover, if you don't know what movie you want to see, the Google movies page allows you to browse for one and focus your search using the genre filters. It may not seem like much of a threat for sites dedicated to this kind of information, but it's likely most people will be satisfied with the info available on Google and won't visit other sites for further details.
