The attack might be launched by a financial organization that doesn't like the campaign

The Move Your Money UK national campaign reported being hit by a distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack on the day of its launch.

“That #DDOS attack on our website happened at 8.30am this morning, on our day of launch. Inexplicable!” the company’s representatives wrote on Twitter on Monday.

According to its website, Move Your Money UK is a not-for-profit organization that aims at building a better banking system by providing people with information to help them better decide what financial institutions they want to support.

After hearing about the attack, the initiators of the Robin Hood tax (The Guardian) highlighted the fact that when they launched their campaign, almost 5,000 no votes were cast within 20 minutes from two computer servers. One of the devices was registered to the investment bank Goldman Sachs.

So is this an attack launched by a financial sector company that doesn’t like the Move Your Money campaign? It could be.

Move Your Money representatives have told me they don’t know for sure. However, they say they’ve implemented some protection mechanisms to fend off such attacks.
