Towards the end of last week, on Thursday, a koala in Australia accidentally got hit by a car. The animal managed to stand on its own feet long enough to climb a tree, but eventually lost consciousness.

Luckily, when it fell to the ground, it landed on a blanket laid out by local firefighters, who had been alerted about the incident and had arrived in the area hoping to find the animal and take it to a hospital.

According to Daily Mail, the koala was in a pretty bad shape when firefighters finally managed to catch it. To revive it, its rescuers had to give it oxygen and even perform chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

“Wildlife Victoria performed mouth-to-mouth and compressions and gave it some oxygen therapy as well,” Langwarrin Country Fire Authority Captain Sean Curtin said in a statement.

Luckily, the animal, now known as Sean, soon regained consciousness. It is now resting at a local animal hospital and does not seem to have suffered any major injuries as a result of its very close encounter with the four-wheeler.

The folks who rescued it say that, as soon as a vet has a look at it and concludes that it is no longer in any kind of danger, it will be allowed to return to the wild.
