Mouawad Unveils World’s Most Expensive Handbag: Heart-Shaped £2.35 Million Clutch

It’s called the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, has been designed by Robert Mouawad and is valued at a whopping £2.35 million. In other words, luxury jeweler Mouawad has just unveiled the world’s most expensive handbag.

Clearly, this is not an item for mere mortals. For this incredible steep price, the owner gets a one-of-a-kind handbag that is a jewel in itself, made of a combination of white and yellow gold with diamonds of various colors and sizes.

The new creation is meant to evoke the magic and the dreaminess from the tales of the Scheherazade, the designer himself says in a press statement cited by the Daily Mail.

However, undoubtedly, ladies’ eye is caught by the incredible attention to detail that went into the making of this and by the sheer number of diamonds packed on such a small surface.

“The Mouawad is made of 18 kt gold which is encrusted with 4,517 diamonds – 105 of them yellow, 56 pink and 4,356 colorless. It weighs 381.92 carats,” the Daily Mail says of the clutch that was unveiled at the Doha Jewelry and Watches Exhibition the other day.

The Mail describes the new creation as “scarily expensive,” but one should probably note that the House of Mouawad is the same one that created in 2003 the Fantasy Bra modeled by Victoria’s Secret Angel Heidi Klum and which cost a jaw-dropping £6.8 million.

“Just as the tales of Scheherazade have captivated readers with their intricately woven plots of uninhibited passion and daring, The Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse is designed to mesmerize with its lavish attention to detail and elaborate workmanship incorporating thousands of diamonds,” one of the guardians of the House, Pascal Mouawad, says.

“This breathtaking creation is a unique masterpiece... not only is it one of a kind but it is also the world’s most valuable, intensifying its power to enchant those who have the privilege of wearing it,” Fred Mouawad adds.

The 1001 Nights Diamond Purse required almost 9,000 hours to be made because, as expected, it’s handmade.
