Announced officially at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week, the Motorola XOOM tablet PC, powered by Google's new Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform version, is expected to ship in around 800k units in the first quarter of the ongoing year alone. The new Android 3.0-based Xoom tablet PC should arrive on shelves in four different color versions, and might even ship up to 1 million units during the first three months of the ongoing year, DigiTimes reports, citing sources from component makers.

Apparently, the deal would include orders placed with Taiwan-based notebook chassis makers like Catcher Technology and Foxconn Technology, as well as with handset makers Taiwan Chi Cheng (CCC) and Silitech Technology.

The new tablet PC from Motorola comes to the market with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, while also including Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor inside for enhanced performance levels.

Moreover, the new device should pack HDMI and USB ports, along with a 5-megapixel photo snapper that can deliver 720p HD video recording capabilities, and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for video chats.

Launched with support for 3G and WiFi connectivity options, the new device is set to receive an upgrade to 4G LTE capabilities, so that it could be used on Verizon Wireless' new LTE (Long Term Evolution) network.

Among the main features that the new device comes to the market with, we can count Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interaction, support for the Android Market and apps available for download from there, Gmail or Exchange email support, and more.

One of the most appealing features of the new Motorola Tablet PC is, of course, the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS flavor, which was built from ground up with this type of devices in mind, but which was said to offer support for devices with smaller screens as well.

Undoubtedly, the new Motorola XOOM would manage to appeal a lot to customers, but it remains to be seen whether its market performance would indeed be the expected one or not.

In related news, we learn that a WiFi-only version of the XOOM might be launched on the market sometime in April, but it is all only in the rumor side for the time being, with few details available on which countries would receive it (Argentina should taste it at that time, Engadget reports).
