Other devices are also a possibility

Motorola’s recently released Android-powered mobile phone, the Motorola Cliq, might become available on the United States market via more operators than just T-Mobile, which already announced that it would offer the device to its users. According to a recent article on WSJ, this is what Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha seems to have stated during a financial analysts conference in San Francisco.

“Motorola Inc. Co-CEO Sanjay Jha said Monday his company is in talks with large U.S. operators other than initial partner T-Mobile USA to sell its Cliq smartphone, but wouldn’t elaborate on key elements about the new product, including pricing. Jha said Motorola is 'in talks with all large operators in U.S.' and is 'fairly hopeful we will begin to engage with all the U.S. operators.'” is what the article reads.

This is not the first time we learn that the company plans on delivering its Android devices through more US carriers, that is for sure, yet Motorola didn't state anything before about Cliq reaching other airwaves than T-Mobile's. For what it's worth, Jha might have been actually referring to another Motorola handset powered by Google's Android operating system, and yet unannounced, the Motorola Sholes, which has already been rumored a few times before to be on its way to Verizon.

At the same time, we should also note that Motorola has stated in its announcement regarding the launch of Cliq with MotoBlur that other devices will also come to the market with the same experience. This would explain the talks with other US carriers, which might add to their lineup different Android handsets from the maker, and not the Cliq.

On the other hand, as phandroid notes, it is possible for the Cliq to come to more operators in the United States, but only after the exclusivity on T-Mobile has ended. As the Sholes is expected to become official at the beginning of October, we'll learn at that time whether Motorola’s Co-CEO was talking about one device or more. Stay tuned to learn more details on this.
