Mobile phone maker Motorola is reportedly gearing up to regain some of the market share it has lost lately, and is expected to place new orders for 2.5G feature phones with ODM makers in China and Taiwan. According to an article on DigiTimes, the company intends to rise its market share to 10 percent, and will order tens of millions of devices, at least this is what sources that attended a Motorola ODM partners meeting recently held in Beijing have stated.

No exact details on the upcoming mobile phones from the company have been unveiled, yet it seems that the phone maker is getting ready for something big, and both its already existing partners and other companies might receive orders from it. According to the piece on DigiTimes, Liu Fei, global vice president and head of ODM feature phone business unit at Motorola, was present at the ODM partners meeting.

Motorola is expected to work with Taiwan handset makers, including some of its current production partners like Compal Communications, Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) and Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS), as well as with Foxlink, Arima Communications and Qisda. China makers, including TCL, should also receive orders from the company.

“Since Motorola has also revealed that it will give priority to handsets based on MediaTek chipset platforms, China handset makers could actually outbid Taiwan rivals in the grab of Motorola orders due to their relatively strong expertise in the development of MediaTek-based mobile devices, the sources added,” DigiTimes continues.

It's a common fact that Motorola is working hard on regaining its position on the mobile phone market after a series of bad quarters. The company has just announced the launch of a mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system and is expected to announce at least another one in the near future, yet this is not the only direction that it will focus on.
