Should announce it officially by November

Leading mobile phone maker Motorola is reportedly interested in entering the tablet PC segment of the market. Moreover, following the current trend, the company is expected to make the move with a slate running under Google's Android operating system, which is already present on all of the latest high-end mobile devices from Motorola.

However, it seems that this is not all. Although specific details are missing at the moment, including pricing, availability or hardware specifications, rumor has it that Motorola would plan launching the device sometimes in November. The upcoming 10-inch slate is also expected to run under the next version of Google's mobile operating system, dubbed Android 3.0 or Gingerbread.

According to The Street (via Unwired View), analyst Ashok Kumar is the one to spill the beans on Motorola's tablet plans. Moreover, it seems that the info comes from “people familiar with the project,” and that they claim the said device would indeed arrive on shelves in about four months from now. It all might end up proving to be only a rumor, but enthusiasts would certainly hope it would pan out in the end.

One other thing that should be mentioned here is that Motorola's tablet computer is expected to prove a great competitor against the Apple iPad. Of course, since this device, launched earlier this year, is already the most popular slate on the market, in was only natural for the comparison to be made. However, it still remains to be seen what exactly Motorola is working on in the tablet area.

The less surprising fact of the entire deal is that Motorola chose Google's Android 3.0 OS for its tablet. The company has registered great success with its Android-based devices, and is expected to continue using the platform in the future as well, especially since it helped it regain its foothold on the market last year. The handset vendor did announce previously that it would release over a dozen Android-based phones, but was mum about possible tablet PC plans.
