Mobile phone maker Motorola has seen great demand for the Moto G handset, the cheapest device in its current lineup, and it appears set to move to even cheaper smartphones in the future.

The vendor is looking into bringing to the market a £30 ($50/€36) smartphone that would appeal to even more users out there, it seems.

At the moment, Moto G is available at £135 ($222/€164) in the UK, and at $179 (€132/£108) in the United States, but not all users out there can afford it, and a cheaper device would change that.

According to a recent article on TrustedReviews, Motorola’s CEO Dennis Woodside has confirmed such plans.

“In much of the world $179 is a lot of money so there’s a big market at a price point of less than $179,” Woodside reportedly said.

“We’re going to look at that and just delivering on that value promise is super important. I mean why can’t these devices be $50? There’s no reason that can’t happen so we’re going to push that.”

However, no specific details on what such a handset might have to offer to its users have been provided as of now. Info on when we might see the smartphone available for purchase hasn’t been offered either.

Moving forth, Motorola is also expected to make a change its approach to the high end of the market, where it plans on launching some more customization capabilities for users.

“On the more premium side we’re pushing more customization. Today you have colors and beginning of materials but you don’t have screen size and you don’t have functionality and we’re going to bring all that in in the next year or so,” Woodside said.

Motorola was rumored before to plan on allowing users to build their smartphones before purchase, through selecting from a series of hardware options they would like to see included in them, and it appears that it might not be too long before this actually happens.
