Motorola to Launch 20-30 New Handsets to Break Competition

- In Taiwan

By: Elena Balan, Communications News Editor

Motorola has big plans to win back the lead advantage that other handset producers have won over the past period. The company's strategy is based on a major future release of up to 30 new mobile phones, including some great hits to raise
sales numbers sky high.

The new handsets will be released on Taiwan's market, although some of them might be available at a global scale as well. Motorola already partnered with major channel partners in Taiwan in order to help balance sales volume and profitability. The company looks to bring devices capable of new performances, suitable to the needs of this specific market.

At this moment, Motorola is on the fourth place in Taiwan's top of handset vendors. It has a market share of almost 14 percent, while Nokia appears on the list with a leading 32 percentage of the market. Sony Ericsson takes the second place, with 20 percent, while Samsung is third, with about 15 percent of all sales. That's pretty close to Motorola, although it might take a great amount of effort for this company to move on third place, especially as Samsung is on a rising.

Motorola already made a strong push on Taiwan's market on the 19th of November, when it launched the RAZR 2 V8 Luxury Edition handset and other 2GB V8 models in Taiwan. This earned it a strong entry on the high-end handset market, which should evolve with the future release of the company's 3G version, the V9, as well as the ROKR Z8 music handset and 3.5G Q9 smartphone in the local market before the end of this year.

Motorola also closed a major partnership, by venturing in the development of Android-based handsets. Such devices are set to come towards the middle of next year, which might also lead to major popularity jumps and high sale rates for the mobile phone producer.
