The company is trying to restrict resells, and it “takes that very seriously”

Mobile phone maker Motorola has included a rather interesting section in its Terms of Sale that all those who purchase devices from it have to agree with, namely that users are not allowed to resell their phones.

Through this move, the company is clearly trying to restrict sales, but the manner in which things are put on display could be interpreted otherwise.

“You’re not a store. You’re buying this phone for yourself or to give as a gift. We can’t let you resell it, and we take that very seriously,” the company notes in the aforementioned Terms of Sale.

For some, this might sound a bit unfair, though it remains to be seen how Motorola will be acting on restricting resells, as @lonseidman notes on Twiter.

Those who will have a look at the document will see that it was not written using the usual legal terms that most companies use, but in a more “relaxed” manner, so that it would be easier to understand.

Users interested in the purchase of a Moto X smartphone will certainly want to have a look at the doc, as there are some sections that are specifically addressed to them.

One of these mentions the fact that personalized devices (designed with Moto Maker) can be returned within 14 days for a redesign (30 days in California), or that users’ credit cards will be immediately charged when an order is placed.

“Because your Moto X is customized to your liking, your credit card will be charged IMMEDIATELY once you submit your order. Additionally, your credit card will be charged IMMEDIATELY for any accessories included on the order. This applies to orders including a virtual SKU,” Motorola notes there.

Moto X owners will also be offered the option to purchase an Extended Warranty, which covers accidental damage to the device for two years, but only up to two claims, it seems.

All in all, these Terms of Sale are not only useful to read, but could also prove an interesting lecture to those who dream of a Moto X handset, not to mention a fun one for everyone.
