Motorola's Android Tablet to Arrive in Early 2011

While other mobile phone makers out there already jumped on the development of tablet PCs running under Google's Android operating system, Motorola seems set to take its time before making a similar move.

Not that the company would not be interested in bringing to the market a tablet running under Google's Android, but it aims at launching a device that should make a difference.

Rumors on the possibility that Motorola would be working on a slate have been floating around for quite some time now, and it seems that little doubt is left here.

The bottom line is that Motorola confirmed plans to deliver a tablet to the market, but also stated that it would do so only if the device is competitive enough.

“I will only develop a tablet if it is sufficiently compelling. Hopefully, that is early next year,” Sanjay Jha of Motorola said at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference recently, phandroid reports.

However, no specific details on what the said device would include were unveiled for the time being.

One thing that it certain here is that the phone maker would certainly try to come up with an Android-based tablet, provided that this is what they are working on, that would rise above all other competitive products, just as the popular DROID smartphone did last year.

Some of the previous reports on this device suggested that Motorola might pack an Nvidia Tegra 2 chip inside it, while pre-loading the Android 3.0 operating system on it.

It wouldn't come as a surprise if Motorola waited for Android 3.0 to be released before getting in the tablet bandwagon, especially since Google said recently that the OS is not yet optimized for use on slates, while adding that the next Android iteration would change this state of facts.

At the same time, we should note that the slate was said to sport a 10-inch touchscreen display, though no confirmation on this emerged for the time being.

Of course, there are a great deal of unknowns when it comes to what Motorola has in store for use in the Android tablets area, but all the necessary details might become official in a few months, so keep an eye on this space for more.
