The handset will probably use iDEN's fast Push-to-Talk feature and CDMA to make calls.

A webpage from the official Sprint Nextel website presents a piece of information that delivers quite a punch to the other American carriers. Besides being able to make calls through the Sprint PCS network, the users that buy the soon to be released hybrid phone from Sprint Nextel will also be able to connect to their friends with the help of the Nextel walkie-talkie style network. This is very good news that confirms what everybody has been waiting to hear since Sprint and Nextel decided to go for it together.

The Nextel iDEN technology uses SIM cards just like GSM does, and offers the fastest push-to-talk service from all communications technologies. Also, being a digital technology, it makes mechanical duplexing in mobile handsets obsolete because it uses Time Domain Duplexing on the terminal and hybrid or cavity duplexing on the Base Station.

People have found out about the Motorola ic502 from various sources months ago, but now it seems that those information weren't just rumors, they were probably inside leaks from the new Sprint Nextel joint-venture.

The same webpage we've already talked about also claims that this hybrid mobile device will be launched on the Sprint Nextel commercial channels on November 5th, this launch taking place in select markets. There is no certain info about the locations of this release, but I think we should feel happy knowing the exact date, and this way all that Sprint Nextel customers have to do next is to wait and see what happens in their area when the release will take place.
