To be released by the end of 2008

Motorola, the "king of iDEN phones", will soon release a new handset to come with this technology, the Motorola i890 (or Motorola CABO, although this is only a codename).

Unlike most of the iDEN phones, who are far from being fashionable, Motorola i890 looks really nice, as we can see in the images unveiled by Engadget Mobile. The handset comes in a clamshell form factor and it resembles the RAZR 2, which was rolled-out by Moto about one year ago, in three versions (V8, V9 and V9m).

There are very few details about the features of i890. However, the handset will surely come with Push-to-Talk (PTT) capabilities, as all the iDEN phones, and with a 3.1 Megapixel camera, since this can be seen in the available pictures. Furthermore, its keypad looks similar to the one packed in the RORK E8 music phone, so it could be a morphing one.

The phone's external display seems to be as big as the internal one, which is a good thing. The not so good thing is the fact that the internal display is kind of small, at about 2 inches, hence it probably doesn't even have a QVGA resolution (240 x 320). But we have to wait for the phone's official features in order to be sure of that.

Motorola i890's price is not known for the moment, nor is the exact date when it is released (sometime at the end of the year, according to the rumors). In North America, only two major carriers offer iDEN services: Sprint (in the US) and Telus (in Canada), plus a smaller, regional US carrier, SouthernLINC Wireless. Therefore, when the new Moto is ready to hit the market, it will most probably come out via one, two or all of these carriers.
