The first Android-based mobile phone to come to the market with iDEN connectivity options, the Motorola i1, seems set to be put on sale over at Boost Mobile on June 20. As previously announced, the upcoming handset will become available nationwide via Best Buy stores, bringing forth a touchscreen display, a rugged design, and the Android operating system.

Boost Mobile was already known to plan the launch of Motorola's i1 handset, yet no specific details on when that might happen have emerged until now. However, a press-release (in Spanish) issued today shows that June 20 is the lucky day for enthusiasts, and that the Boost Mobile $50 Monthly Unlimited plan is a go with this handset.

The Motorola i1 comes to Boost Mobile's customers with a 3.1-inch touchscreen display that delivers an HVGA resolution, with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, flash and video recording capabilities, Opera Mini 5 browser, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (a 2GB card in the package), built-in GPS receiver, SWYPE virtual keyboard, and, of course, iDEN capabilities.

In addition to announcing the release of this Android handset, Boost Mobile also unveiled the immediate availability of Motorola i296, an affordable device that goes for only $59.99 (excluding taxes) on the carrier's Boost Mobile $50 Monthly Unlimited plan.

The new durable device packs inside a nice range of features that should appeal to those looking for a basic device, such as GPS receiver, Bluetooth, multimedia and text messaging features, or speakerphone.

The phone also sports wireless Web capabilities, along with a 600-entry phonebook, support for downloadable games, wallpapers and real music ringtones, and Nationwide Walkie-Talkie capability. “The Motorola i296 is the perfect device for consumers looking for reliability with all the basic functions,” said Neil Lindsay, chief marketing officer, Boost Mobile. “The features of the i296 combined with the Boost Monthly Unlimited offer make for a great value package for those who love to talk and text.”
