Major carrier Nextel and Motorola have just announced the immediate availability of the ATRIX HD Android smartphone in Mexico. Along with the device, the companies have launched a new radio service called PRIP.

For those unaware, Motorola ATRIX HD is the first Jelly Bean smartphone in both companies’ portfolios. Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether the device will receive another Android 4.2 upgrade in the near future.

With the Motorola ATRIX HD and the new smartradio PRIP technology, users will be able to take advantage of “instantaneous high-performance communication using a software based solution integrated with Nextel’s wireless network.”

According to Motorola, users can access PRIP service via an icon on the ATRIX HD. More importantly, it adds no extra costs to customers’ calling plan.

Basically, users will be able to enjoy direct connect with anyone, anywhere by making direct communication calls via Nextel Evolution Network, Wi-Fi, or roaming.

“PRIP is a unique service for both our current and potential users. With PRIP, you have Nextel Radio service and coverage worldwide. Our ongoing strategic partnership with Motorola Mobility allows us to offer the PRIP service on the most advanced smartradio, which is a key milestone in our joint offering,” said Alberto Escobar, marketing vice–president of Nextel Mexico.

Hardware-wise, Motorola ATRIX HD is equipped with a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone packs 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot for memory expansion.

It also boasts an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. A secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera is included as well.

Another strong point of the ATRIX HD is the 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating.
