Today, mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has made available for purchase in the United States the Wi-Fi-only flavor of its first tablet PC running under Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, the Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi.

Starting today, consumers in the country can purchase the new tablet from a wide range of retailers, both via their stores nationwide, as well as online, from their websites.

As previously announced, the new device is available for purchase via retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, RadioShack, Sam's Club, Staples and Walmart, and features a $599 MSRP.

This is the first Honeycomb-based tablet PC to arrive on the market, while also sporting a large, 10.1-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a WXGA (1280x 800 pixels; 150 pixels / inch), HD 720p resolution.

The tablet PC comes to the market with a 1GHz Dual Core application processor packed inside, and with up to 32 GB of on board memory.

Moreover, the new device would include a Bluetooth 2.1+EDR+HID, Wi-Fi 802.11 a,b,g,n, Micro USB; HDMI out, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and built-in GPS receiver.

The tablet PC also arrives on shelves with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with Dual-LED flash, auto focus, and 720p video capture capabilities, as well as with a 2 MP camera on the front, for video calling.

The Motorola XOOM would impress courtesy of its multimedia capabilities too, which include AAC, H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, ACC+ Enhanced, OGG, MIDI, AMR NB, AAC+ file support, along with video streaming capabilities, and Adobe Flash 10 Player support.

At the same time, it features support for Google Mobile Services, including Talk with video chat, Search, YouTube, Gmail, Google eBooks, as well as Google Maps, Google Latitude, or Google Maps Street View.

Corporate Sync, Google Mail, POP3/IMAP (embedded), Corporate Directory Lookup (GAL) are supported as well.

Moreover, the XOOM hits shelves with QuickOffice Viewer on board, as well as with support for a wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market.
