Australian wireless services provider Telstra has just made available for purchase on its airwaves a new tablet PC, the Motorola XOOM, running under Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. The tablet PC was already known to be on its way to the Australian operator, as the company confirmed a while ago its landing on May 24th.

Starting today, Telstra customers can enjoy the capabilities of this device for $840 outright. Of course, the wireless carrier put in place a series of postpaid options as well, including:

- $29 Data + Cap plan + $25 MRO, with 1GB of data / month. Total min. cost $1,296 ($54 per month). - $49 Data + Cap plan + $25 MRO, with 7GB of data / month. Total min. cost $1,776 ($74 per month). - $79 Data + Cap plan + $15 MRO, with 12GB of data / month. Total min. cost $2,256 ($94 per month).

The Motorola XOOM was the first tablet PC in the world to run under the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS, and should offer one of the most appealing mobile experiences such a device can offer.

It sports a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display, complemented by a fast 1GHz dual-core application processor inside, and 32GB of internal memory for storing videos, photos or music.

“The MOTOROLA XOOM gives you the freedom to enjoy an uncompromised mobile internet experience, HD video, games, e-books and so much more when you're on the go,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

“All on a large, 10.1" touch screen. Be in control, entertained, more time efficient and organized when on the go, on Australia's largest and fastest national mobile broadband network the Telstra Next G network.”

The specifications list of the new device also includes 1GB RAM for optimized multi-tasking, full 1080p HD Screen, HDMI output and video playback at 720p, along with dual cameras (one on the front for video calling), and WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options.

The device also comes with support for Adobe Flash Player 10.2, as well as with access to various Google Mobile services, and to the Android Market, for downloading and installing applications.
