Wireless operator US Cellular has now a new Android-based device available for purchase for its users, namely the Motorola XOOM.

The tablet PC is now for sale via the carrier's stores in the United States, a recent tweet from the company notes.

The Android-based device features a price tag of $599, the same as when purchased via other distributors in the country.

The Motorola XOOM was unveiled to the world in January during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and was launched in the United States via Verizon Wireless only a few months after.

Packing a 10.1-inch touchscreen display, the tablet PC runs under Android Honeycomb, Google's platform designed specifically for the larger screens of slates.

It comes with a fast 1GHz dual-core application processor inside, and with 1GB of RAM to accompany it.

“Take charge with Motorola XOOM, a thin, light and powerful tablet that leads the revolution in mobile computing,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

“It's the world's first device powered by Android 3.1 (Honeycomb) software, designed and optimized for tablets with a radical new holographic, multi-finger, user interface and no hard Android keys on the front.

“With new live content forward scrollable widgets, your key information is streamed right to your home screen.”

The tablet PC also features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, as well as a front-facing camera for video calling.

The specifications list of the new device also includes HDMI port so that users can view content from it straight on the HDTV flat screen at home.

The Motorola XOOM also offers support for Adobe Flash Player, so that users can enjoy an impressive web browsing experience while on the go, as well as Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps and Street View, and support for various Google Mobile services.

“Check your Gmail or Exchange e-mail, view your calendars and even send out appointments or meeting notices. Easily navigate your calendar or check your e-mails without having to leave the home screen or open different apps,” US Cellular continues.

To get the Motorola XOOM via this wireless carrier, users should check with the closest US Cellular location to see whether the device is available for them or not.(via)
