Motorola XOOM Almost Confirmed for Sprint

Mobile phone carrier Sprint is expected to add to its offering in the not too far future a new device running under Google's Android operating system, namely the Motorola XOOM tablet PC.

Nothing was announced on this for the time being, but rumor has it that Sprint might be set to make an official unveiling in the near future.

Apparently, Motorola XOOM cases are already shipping to Sprint's stores, which means that things might have already been set in motion.

The tablet PC is said to arrive on shelves at Sprint with support for the carrier's 4G network, which is based on WiMAX.

The device was launched not too long ago on shelves at Verizon Wireless with support for the carrier's 3G network and with the promise of 4G LTE capabilities via a software update.

Verizon did not make the software update available for the handset as of now, and no info on when it might arrive emerged for the time being.

The WiMAX-enabled Motorola XOOM would be the second 4G tablet PC that Sprint launches on its airwaves, following the HTC EVO View 4G, which was unveiled only recently.

However, while HTC's device arrives on shelves only with a 7-inch touchscreen display on board, the Motorola XOOM sports a larger, 10.1-inch display.

The device also runs under Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, designed specifically for tablet PCs, and packs a dual-core application processor inside.

The Motorola XOOM was launched with dual cameras, so that users can enjoy video calls on it, and with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity options, along with GPS receiver, and more.

Although XOOM's arrival at Sprint is only a rumor for the time being, it would not come too much as a surprise if it would pan out, especially since other devices suffered a similar fate, including the HTC EVO View 4G, launched initially as Flyer, or the BlackBerry PlayBook, which should arrive in various flavors too, based on connectivity options.
