14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola XOOM’s successor, the XOOM 2 has just been launched in Greece, along with its smaller Media Edition version. Motorola confirmed that both slates would be available in the country in late February for a price that will be disclosed closer to launch.
According to Motorola, both XOOM 2 and Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition feature 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities, so expect the full connectivity package to be available with these ones.
Both tablets are powered by Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system and feature a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor inside. In addition, each slate packs 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
However, the XOOM 2 sports a 10.1-inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display, whereas the XOOM 2 Media Edition comes with a slightly smaller 8.2-inch display. Both screens support 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and feature Corning Gorilla Glass coating.
To emphasize the multimedia side of the tablet, Motorola claims that the XOOM 2 Media Edition has a 20% improvement in graphics performance over the original XOOM tablet. This translates in smoother gaming and faster multi-tasking operations.
Both tablets come pre-loaded with the MotoCast application, which allows users to stream multimedia content, such as music, video and photos, from a computer directly to the tablet.
In addition, the XOOM 2 Media Edition can be used as a universal remote control for home AV equipment courtesy to the custom remote control app pre-installed on the slate.
