Both are essentially the same item, save for the size of the display

Since Toshiba launched some new tablets, Motorola wasn't about to let much time pass without some new product release of its own, so here we are.

Motorola has formally launched the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition tablets in Turkey, which rely on an operating system some may not expect.

What we mean by that is that, rather than Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, they use Android 3.2, Honeycomb.

The press release doesn't actually say why this is the case, but we assume it is only a matter of time before an update brings the newer OS.

Regardless, the tablets have dual-core 2.2 GHz processors, high-quality displays covered by Corning Gorilla Glass and a splashguard coating (on the 10-inch XOOM 2).

1 GB RAM, 16 GB / 32 GB of storage space and two webcams exist as well (1.3 MP front and 5 MP rear).

As for the panels themselves, they measure 10 inches (Motorola XOOM 2) and 8.2 inches (XOOM 2 Media Edition).

“Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool for staying connected, getting work done and having fun at home and on the road,” said Małgorzata Matusiewicz, head of marketing in Central Europe, mobile devices, Motorola Mobility.

“We are very excited about these two new additions to our tablet portfolio that build on the success of the original Motorola XOOM to now deliver more powerful tablet experiences to the European market.”

Motorola's new tablets have Wi-Fi, 3G and the MotoCast 1 App, which streams music, photos, videos and documents to and from a PC without media tools, cords or other apps.

Turk Telecom, TTNet and Avea channels will be tasked with selling the items as part of monthly data plans starting at 39 Turkish lira (16.55 Euro). More information on this, and the hardware, is available here.
