Following last week’s XOOM 2 launch in the UK, Motorola Mobility introduced recently the second XOOM 2 tablet, the XOOM 2 Media Edition.

The tablet is currently available via major UK-based retailers, including Amazon, Expansys and Clove. The Wi-Fi only version of the XOOM 2 Media Edition is available for £329.99 (510 USD or 390 EUR) outright.

Customers who order one via Amazon won’t have to pay for the shipping, as the retailer offers free delivery in the UK with “Super Saver Delivery.”

The XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition is Motorola’s second try on Honeycomb tablets, while the latter is the first sub 10-inch tablet manufactured by the company.

According to Motorola, “the XOOM 2 Media Edition has a 20% improvement in graphics performance over the original Motorola XOOM for smoother gaming, features adaptive virtual surround sound with booming bass that’ll delight your ears, and stands out from the crowd with the fastest multi-tasking in its class.”

Aimed at multimedia lovers, the XOOM 2 Media Edition can be used as a universal remote control for home AV equipment. Just like the Motorola RAZR, the tablet is protected against accidental spills by splash-guard coating.

Several accessories are available for purchase separately, such as the HD Multimedia Station, which allows users to watch multimedia content on larger screens.

The XOOM 2 Media Edition comes with an 8.2-inch capacitive touchscreen that boasts 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and 16 million colors support. In addition, the screen is protected against scratches and scrapes by Corning Gorilla Glass.

The slate does not come with 3G support, instead users will be able to browse the Internet via Wi-Fi connection. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for video calls.
