Motorola XOOM’s successor has finally made it to Romania, but it’s better late than never. Although Motorola devices are not among the most popular in Romania, the company hopes to boost its sales by bringing more of its products on this developing market.

The XOOM 2 is now available for purchase online via Orange for as low as 300 EUR (395 USD) on select plans. Customers who do not want to commit to a long-term contract will have to shell out no less than 590 EUR (780 USD) for the tablet.

Obviously, the tablet comes with both 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities and runs an older version of Google’s mobile platform, Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

However, the company already confirmed it would deploy an Ice Cream Sandwich update for the XOOM 2 by the end of the year.

Built on the success of the Motorola XOOM, the XOOM 2 comes with a much better 10.1-inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports an 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and features a Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

On the inside, the slate is equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.

It also packs 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), though this has yet to be confirmed by the carrier.

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which features LED flash, autofocus and HD (720p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool for staying connected, getting work done and having fun at home and on the road. We are very excited about this new addition to our tablet portfolio that builds on the success of the original Motorola XOOM to deliver more powerful tablet experiences,” said Mihai Madas, sales manager, Romania and Serbia, Mobile Devices, Motorola Mobility.
