One of the latest Android tablets launched by Motorola, the XOOM 2 is about to make its debut in the UAE. The slate will be available for purchase from select major retailer across the country.

Unfortunately, the US-based handset maker did not unveil the exact release date of the XOOM 2, but it usually takes a few days after the company officially announces the availability of a product.

There are only a few differences between the Motorola XOOM and its sequel. Design-wise it's worth mentioning the XOOM 2 is about 130g lighter than the original model.

In addition, Motorola XOOM 2 features splashguard coating and a much better screen. The tablet sports a 10.1-inch HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 800 x 1280 pixels resolution, and features Corning Gorilla Glass for protection against scratches and scrapes.

The slate will be shipped with both 3G and Wi-Fi support, as well as GPRS and EDGE class 12. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR, along with microUSB, HDMI port, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability.

Tablets are quickly becoming a must-have tool across the Middle East for staying connected, getting work done and having fun both at home and on the road,” said Raed Hafez, general manager for Motorola Mobility, Middle East & Africa.

Motorola XOOM 2 is powered by Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system and packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor, which is complemented by PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing unit.

On the inside the slate embeds 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM. Although in some markets the XOOM 2 is delivered with microSD card slot for memory expansion, but this has yet to be confirmed in the UAE.

Everyone from tech obsessives to families are moving beyond the static desktop and laptop status quo to embrace the sheer versatility, power and converged multimedia experience only the tablet can offer. Motorola XOOM 2 is a bold statement of intent from Motorola Mobility and we are confident it will make a notable and influential mark in this fast-emerging market,” concluded Hafez.
