Motorola has come out with nothing spectacular as of late, and it seems that the company doesn't really present any interest for buyers. This is all the more obvious especially since, now, Nokia, Samsung and Sony-Ericsson are preparing their new generation of smartphones, and Motorola seems to be at risk more than ever.

One good thing that could make Motorola hope to regain its rightful place on the mobile market is the Android platform. As it turns out, the company also saw this as a solution for its lack of productivity, so it is now working on expanding the Android Team from 50 persons to 350. This should really make a difference in the time needed to develop its own version of the Android platform. It already had a team of 50 members because Motorola was one of the original partners of the Open Handset Alliance that is behind the open-source mobile OS.

Earlier in June this year, rumors were saying that the Motorola Alexander phone would be an Android one. The fact that the company is expanding the team might mean that, along with the platform, it is also working on a new device. Needless to say, the handheld will really have to be a remarkable one since there are other companies as well taking interest in the Android platform and that will probably start working on their own Android Phone. Soon, HTC's G1 will cease to be the only Android device available.

Let's take a quick look at the advantages of the Android platform. First of all, it is a very capable mobile web computer. As regards developers of applications, it is a very appealing and promising environment, and apps will most likely be available for all mobiles that use the Android Platform, no matter the manufacturer. Another very important aspect is the fact that manufacturers won't have to pay a license for the OS and this translates into less money spent, which alone should be a strong enough reason for them to embrace the Android. Now, it suddenly becomes clear why Motorola is showing such marked interest in Android.
