Motorola has been somewhat out of the spotlight recently, at least in terms of high-end phones. It’s been a while that the company rolled out something truly spectacular, having seemingly remained focused on mid-end devices. As it turns out, now, it wants to make its own Android phone but, in the meanwhile, it is keeping itself busy, with several models still under testing at the FCC.

The fact that Motorola's VU30, a new music-focused clamshell, is going to reach Verizon Wireless is not news. The only uncertain aspect regarding this was the date when that would happen, as it seemed that Verizon wanted to get this phone out the door before the end of the month.

Well, the good news is that the device just got the FCC approval so it won't be long until it hits stores. Okay, perhaps it will not happen in September, as initially planned, but most likely in October. At least, so we hope, since there is nothing on the carrier's website to give us a clear hint about this detail.

Let's take a quick look at what VU30 has to offer. As you would expect from a music-focused phone, it has an MP3 player and a microSD card slot, so you can store all your songs easily. This Motorola device also comes with a video player and a 2 megapixel camera with digital zoom.

The size of the display is unknown as of yet, but what we did find out is that the second display is touch-sensitive, which is a pretty nice feature. As for connectivity, users will have Bluetooth 1.2 and a USB (most likely 2.0 miniUSB). The device also features a 2.5mm headset jack and a GPS receiver.

Clearly, this is a mid-ranged phone that can't be ignored, especially if you are a clamshell phone fan and, most importantly, if you like Motorola. The truth is that the clamshell design is, in all fairness, a trademark for the company, so much so that not few are those who, every time they look at a clamshell, remember the Motorola StarTac. Hopefully, we'll soon have a release date and a price as well for the VU30.
