The clamshell should be soon available from Sprint

One of Sprint's new Motorola phones to be releases soon is Motorola V950, a handset that was first unveiled in April, during CTIA Wireless 2008, together with lots of other new Sprint devices (Samsung Instinct - the recently released full-touch phone - included).

Motorola V950 is a rugged and waterproof clamshell built to withstand harsh conditions. The handset was recently seen in live photos, over at MobileBurn, and it looks pretty nice.

Among the features of V950, we have: a 2.2 inch TFT internal display with 262K colors and a QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels), a smaller external display, built-in GPS and Sprint Navigator, dual-band CDMA connectivity (800 / 1900 MHz) with 1xEV-DO Rev. A for high data transfer speeds, Push-to-Talk to work with Nextel Direct Connect, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Music and Video players, external music keys, Sprint TV as well as Sprint Music Store, email and Web capabilities, Instant Messaging, USB 2.0 and an unspecified amount of internal memory, expandable with a microSD card (most probably up to 2GB). There's also a 2 Megapixel photo camera with flash, digital zoom and video recording - not great, but you'll probably still be able to take good snapshots if the lighting conditions are favorable.

Motorola V950 weighs 4.16 ounces (118 grams) and, when not flipped, it measures 4.1 x 2.1 x 0.66 inches (104 x 53 x 16.7 mm). Its battery is a 1100 mAh one and it should be capable of offering up to 4 hours in talk-time mode (the stand-by time is not known for the moment).

Back in April, Sprint said that the Moto V950 would hit the market in the second half of the year, hence we should expect the rugged clamshell to be announced this summer. The price of the handset was not unveiled, but knowing that rugged and Direct Connect phones don't come cheap, the V950 will probably be quite pricey.
