Mobile phone maker Motorola has just updated its “Android Software Upgrade” timetable with new info on when various devices would receive a newer OS version, informing DROID X users in the US that the Android 2.2 Froyo solution they are all waiting for should arrive in “late summer.”

At the same time, the company unveiled details on which devices should be upgraded to the Android 2.1 OS, as well as info on when that would happen.

DROID X owners are eagerly waiting for Android 2.2 to arrive on their devices, especially since Motorola took measures towards blocking the leaked Froyo ROM that emerged for their devices several days ago.

While the company notes on that support page: “Upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for late summer,” when it comes to DROID X by Motorola, chances are that the actual solution would arrive at a later date.

It wouldn't be the first time the handset vendor delays the release of a software update for its devices, that's for sure.

Earlier this year, the company announced that its CLIQ and CLIQ XT phones available on the US market would be updated to Android 2.1 by the end of Q2, but that did not happen.

Currently, the upgrade timetable shows: “Upgrade to Android 2.1 - testing in process, planned for late Q3/early Q4,” for both devices, which is not too encouraging.

Hopefully, Motorola manages to meet the deadline this time, and CLIQ and CLIQ XT would receive the Android 2.1 update in 2010, just as the BACKFLIP at AT&T should in the third quarter of the year.

However, it seems that other BACKFLIP devices, as well as DEXT handsets out there, won't taste the Android 2.1 upgrade, at least this is what Motorola states in regard to these phones on the European and Latin American markets. DEVOUR won't be upgraded either.

Motorola is currently evaluating the Android 2.1 update for BACKFLIP, DEXT and QUENCH in Canada and Asia-Pacific, as well as the Android 2.2 upgrade for MILESTONE in these markets.

The MILESTONE is expected to taste the Android 2.2 software update in Europe during the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, and might receive it in Latin America too, though this still has to be decided.

Korean users of Motorola Android devices should receive the Froyo upgrade on all of their MILESTONE, MOTOROI and Titanium handsets.
